AHCC®
Mushrooms and fungi have been used in medicine for thousands of years. They have been used traditionally to provide immune support, treat and prevent infections, protect the liver, and offset the negative effects of stress.
Active Hexose Correlated Compound (AHCC®) is a patented compound isolated from the mycelium of the medicinal mushrooms of the basidiomycete species of mushrooms, including Shiitake (Lentinus edodes). It was developed in the 1980s by Japanese scientists from the University of Tokyo, with the main aim of developing natural ingredients for diseases associated with modern lifestyles.

Better functioning immune system
The primary mechanism by which AHCC delivers its beneficial effect is by stimulating and balancing the immune system. The studies found it increased immune cells called macrophages, T-cells, dendritic cells and natural killer cells. This broad spectrum of action is important to recreate immune balance while blood cells can recognize and attack cancer cells or foreign bacteria invaders.
Promotes normal cell replication
AHCC is used alongside chemotherapy treatments in many Japanese hospitals for its immune-supportive effects. Many studies have shown reduced side effects, increased quality of life and improved survival rates. Preclinical studies demonstrated that shiitake mushrooms were able to induce apoptosis in the cancer cells, the process of molecular programmed cellular death.
AHCC® may offer great support to prevent infections
AHCC® has been studied and shown to activate and modulate natural killer cells to defend against infectious pathogens. This is very promising especially for those with weakened immune systems.
One interesting application is that AHCC supplementation improved the immune response to vaccinations, which is very applicable to the aging population that sometime has a challenging time mounting an adequate immune response to vaccines.
Backed by solid science this extract packs a powerful immune punch for those stubborn infections like bronchitis or pneumonia. The most common doses in studies have been from 1-6 g of the AHCC extract.
