AOR was the first to introduce to North America a stable and bioavailable oxaloacetic acid in benaGene®. Oxaloacetate (also known as oxaloactic acid) is a human metabolite that works as a part of the Kreb’s cycle, which is a main source of cellular energy and metabolism. It instigates the change of NADH to NAD+ which affects the amount of usable energy available (ATP) and signaling molecules, which are critical for transmitting information between cells. Higher NAD+ levels are linked to increasing the number of beneficial longevity genes, whereas NADH is linked to decreasing beneficial genes. Therefore increasing the NAD+/NADH ratio is important. benaGene® appears to promote this ratio.
There has been a reasonable amount of research conducted on the key benaGene® ingredient, oxaloacetate. Both experimental and clinical studies have been used to investigate oxaloacetic acid in mimicking calorie restriction, managing glucose levels, its antioxidant effects and impact on lifespan. Most of the research done in the last seven years have been reviews, along with a few clinical or experimental studies. Studies with benaGene® have also shown a reduction in glucose levels and an improved uptake of glucose without negative side effects. Oxaloacetate supplements can help reduce blood sugar levels leading to weight loss by down-regulating pathways that create and store fat. Mitochondrial and cellular DNA damage is thought to exacerbate aging, and benaGene® has been shown to protect and repair animal DNA.
