Hesperidin is a flavanone glycoside found in citrus fruits. The name is derived from the word “hesperidium”, for fruit produced by citrus trees. Because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, hesperidin offers a variety of benefits in cardiovascular disease. Because inflammation is at the root of chronic diseases such as heart disease, the anti-inflammatory effect of hesperidin is of interest to some researchers.
The uses for hesperidin include cardiovascular, blood vessel, metabolic and cognitive health. Additional studies showed the following potential properties of this flavonoid as being anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, an antioxidant and showing promise for supporting multiple aspects of metabolic health.
