Black pepper belongs to the Piperaceae family and is indigenous to India. The plant requires a long rainy season with hot temperatures. These plants continue to produce for as long as 40 years. Commonly used around the world in culinary dishes, it has been used medically to relieve flatulence and can stimulate gastric secretions to assist digestion.
Black pepper extract has been found to enhance the absorption of other nutrients. It does this by slowing down the rate at which they are processed by the liver and excreted, giving them more time to be absorbed and utilized by the body.
