Riboflavin 5 phosphate is the bioactive form of vitamin B2. It is a water-soluble vitamin. Riboflavin plays an important role in energy production, metabolism and cellular development. It also supports healthy skin, hair and blood flow. It supports the activation and conversion of other B vitamins, particularly niacin and vitamin B6.

Supports energy production
B vitamins are well-known for their energy-boosting abilities. Riboflavin (B2) plays important supportive roles in the energy-producing reactions performed when our body breaks down carbohydrates, fats and proteins. B vitamins serve as co-factors in breaking down our food and are critical to ensuring the body is producing energy efficiently for immediate use or storage.
Promotes healthy red blood cell production
Riboflavin is important for red blood cell production and transport of oxygen to the cells. Adequate amounts of riboflavin in the body can increase circulating hemoglobin and increase red cell production.
Prevention of migraines
Riboflavin 5 phosphate is in the active form that the body needs and has been shown to reduce the frequency of migraines as well as decreasing the number of medications needed.
Novel work undertaken by a team at Ulster University shows that riboflavin, another B-vitamin that is closely linked with folate in the body, plays a critical role in normalizing blood pressure in people with the MTHFR gene. In a series of randomized trials conducted in hypertensive patients, they showed that targeted riboflavin supplementation specifically in those with this genetic variant results in marked lowering of blood pressure.
