Curcumin is a substance from the turmeric plant (Curcuma longa), a spice commonly used in East Asian curry dishes. A substantial number of pre-clinical and human clinical trials have highlighted the health-promoting effects of curcumin, namely its role as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relieving agent. Biochemical analysis has shown that curcumin is insoluble in water and gastrointestinal fluid, is rapidly metabolized and poorly absorbed by cells, has poor blood brain barrier permeability, and is rapidly eliminated from the body.

All of these factors limit its use as an efficient natural functional agent. As such, the focus has shifted to developing more effective mechanisms of curcumin delivery in order to reap its many therapeutic effects. Curcumin Ultra is a revolutionary product from AOR’s Ultra Series. It is a unique combination of free-form curcuminoids (CurQfen®) with water-soluble turmeric polysaccharides (Turmacin®). This formulation not only resolves the bioavailability issues of other curcumin products; it also provides the highest levels of bioactive free-form curcuminoids on the market! Curcumin Ultra is effective for multiple conditions including acute and chronic pain and inflammation.

AOR Advantage

In a randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 60 patients with work stress-related anxiety and fatigue were given either CurQfen, standard curcumin or placebo for 1 month. Doses of each curcumin were 500mg twice daily. Compared to the group who were given standard curcumin, the patients given CurQfen had significant improvements in quality of life with reductions in stress, anxiety, and fatigue.

Researchers also found that in samples from these patients, there were more markers of antioxidant activity. A 2019 double
-blinded, placebo-controlled study was conducted to investigate CurQfen’s effect on cardiovascular disease. 22 men were randomized to receive 500mg per day of CurQfen or fenugreek fiber alone for 12 weeks, without any changes to diet or exercise routines. After the 12-week treatment period, blood samples revealed that those who had taken CurQfen had significantly decreased levels of homocysteine (a marker of cardiovascular disease) compared to the control group; and an increase in HDL (the “good”) cholesterol.

A 2019 animal study tested the effects of curcumin-galactomannosides (CGM) on alcohol-induced liver damage. Rats were administered enough ethanol to increase markers of liver toxicity, inflammation and oxidative damage. Compared to unformulated natural curcuminoids, rats that were supplemented with CGM showed a reversal of all of the pathological effects of alcohol administration. Biopsies of the liver tissue also confirmed that CGM was able to better protect the tissue compared to the natural curcuminoids.
