Advanced Bone Protection is Milk Basic Protein (MBP™), a specific whey protein fraction found in trace amounts in bovine milk. MBP is considered to be so safe and vital that some food items are fortified with it in Japan, where it was discovered.

MBP has been shown to increase the activity of bone-building cells (osteoblasts) while reducing the activity of the cells that break down bone (osteoclasts), resulting in a more balanced and effective approach to preventing the bone loss that leads to osteopenia and osteoporosis. Milk basic protein (MBP) was tested on bone metabolism in 27 healthy menopausal women. Subjects were randomized to receive either 40mg per day of MBP or placebo for 6 months. Bone density scans were conducted at baseline and at the end of the treatment. Results showed that the average rate of bone mineral density was significantly higher in the MBP group than placebo. Other test results indicated that MBP treatment led to maintenance of the balance of bone remodeling, in addition to preventing bone loss.

In a placebo-controlled randomized trial, 35 healthy young women were given either 40mg of MBP or placebo daily for 6 months. The average rate of gain of bone mineral density was significantly higher than in the placebo group.

A study in 30 healthy adult men given 300mg MBP daily for 16 days showed a significant increase in serum osteocalcin concentrations. These results suggest that even short-term treatment of MBP in men led to the promotion of bone formation, suppression of bone resorption, while also maintaining the balance of bone remodeling.
