Bergamot polyphenolic fraction enhances rosuvastatin-induced effect on LDL-cholesterol, LOX-1 expression and protein kinase B phosphorylation in patients with hyperlipidemia

In a prospective, open-label, parallel group, placebo-controlled study from 2013, 77 patients with elevated LDL and triglyceride levels were randomized to one of four groups: placebo, 10-20 mg rosuvastatin, 1000 mg bergamot alone, and bergamot plus rosuvastatin. Improvements to lipid profiles were enhanced when bergamot was combined with rosuvastatin compared to the group given rosuvastatin alone.  …

The effect of natural antioxidants in the development of metabolic syndrome: Focus on bergamot polyphenolic fraction

In this comprehensive review from 2020, authors examined evidence supporting the use of bergamot polyphenolic fractions in prevention of metabolic syndrome. Including research on the lipid lowering and anti-diabetic effects of the polyphenols in bergamot. Hypoglycemic and hypolipemic effects of a new lecithin formulation of bergamot polyphenolic fraction: A double blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study

In a randomized, placebo-controlled study, 237 patients suffering from a combination of hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia received 0, 500 or 1,000 mg/day of bergamot extract (23–27% flavonoids by weight) for 30 days. Patients receiving bergamot extract exhibited reductions in LDL-C of 23–27% (at 500 mg/day) and 33–39% (at 1,000 mg/day). Similar reductions were observed in …

An open-label pilot study of combined augmentation with creatine monohydrate and 5-Hydroxytryptophan for selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor – or serotonin – norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor -resistant depression in adult women

An open label clinical study published in 2017 assessed the benefit of a combination of creatine and 100 mg of 5-HTP twice daily, in combination with already approved SSRIs or SNRIs (selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors). Supplementation was given for 8 weeks, with 4 weeks of post treatment follow up, with the primary endpoint being a …

Probiotics in 14-day triple therapy for Asian pediatric patients with Helicobacter pylori infection: a network meta-analysis.

In a clinical study designed to assess the effect of Probiotic-3 supplementation on H. pylori clearance, 182 patients were randomized to standard of care supplemented with daily Probiotic-3, or to standard of care alone, for 14 days. The clearance rate with Probiotic-3 supplementation was 84%, as compared to 63% for standard therapy.   References: Wen J, …
