This was a six month randomized double blind, placebo controlled trial from 2011, which included 49 type 2 diabetic patients with chronic coronary heart disease and aimed to examine the effects of hawthorn supplementation in this population. There was found to be a significant reduction in TC. LDL-C was reduced by 11% and non HDL-C by 10% compared to baseline in the hawthorn group. A significant decrease in neutrophil elastase was also seen.
