This was a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled parallel group comparative trial from 2020 which consisted of 335 adult teachers in Japan. The study’s aim was to look at whether supplementation with lactoferrin would reduce the prevalence of gastroenteritis in this population during the winter months when both children in the daycare and staff are most commonly affected. It was found that the prevalence of acute gastrointestinal symptoms was significantly lower in the intervention groups compared to the placebo. Duration of diarrhea was much shorter in the 600 mg group versus placebo.
