In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial from 2015, 29 healthy Japanese adults with normal to moderately high triglyceride levels (110-300 mg/dL) were randomized to receive 20 mg of pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) daily. After 12 weeks of treatment there was a significant decrease in mean LDL cholesterol levels in the PQQ group. In the subgroup of subjects who had high LDL levels at baseline, PQQ led to significant decreases from baseline, in LDL compared to placebo.
