In a randomized, placebo-controlled study, 237 patients suffering from a combination of hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia received 0, 500 or 1,000 mg/day of bergamot extract (23–27% flavonoids by weight) for 30 days. Patients receiving bergamot extract exhibited reductions in LDL-C of 23–27% (at 500 mg/day) and 33–39% (at 1,000 mg/day). Similar reductions were observed in triglycerides. HDL-C levels increased by 17–26% (at 500 mg/day) and 30–39% (at 1,000 mg/day).
