This is a review from 2020 that discusses the findings thus far in terms of the potential benefits of inositol and IP6 in the treatment of diabetes. IP6 is also known as phytic acid and is found naturally in grains and oil seeds. Some of the most abundant sources are wheat bran and flaxseeds. At one time, IP6 was considered to be an anti-nutrient, however, more recent studies are finding that it has many health promoting benefits and potential uses as an intervention. This review highlights the findings of the ability of IP6 to lower HbA1C, blood glucose levels, glycation end products, intestinal oxidative stress and increase insulin sensitivity.
