Prophylactic lactoferrin for preventing late-onset sepsis and necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants: A PRISMA-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis 

This was a systematic review and meta-analysis looking at the potential benefits of lactoferrin for preventing late-onset sepsis (LOS) and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants.  Nine RCT’s were included in the analysis which involved a total of 1834 patients.  Of the 9 studies NEC was the primary outcome measure of 5 studies.  In these 5 studies lactoferrin supplementation showed a significant reduction in the incidence of NEC.
