Alleviates Pain and Symptoms of Arthritis
Patients between the ages of 40 and 65 years with diagnosed osteoarthritis of the knee were given either 160mg of LongvidaÒ curcumin, or a combination of 400mg ibuprofen and a placebo tablet, for 90 days. From day 45 of treatment onwards, there was significant improvement in visual analogue scale (VAS) scores in both treatment groups. Reduction in pain was significant by two months of treatment in both groups compared to baseline, and no difference was seen between the groups. This illustrates that LongvidaÒ curcumin was as effective as ibuprofen in reducing osteoarthritic pain.

Improves Cognition and Mood in the Middle-aged and Elderly Subjects
In a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled study, the effect of both acute (one hour and three hours post-dosing) and chronic (four weeks) use of 400mg daily LongvidaÒ curcumin on cognitive function and mood was tested in 60 healthy elderly subjects aged 60-85 years. In the acute trials, subjects given LongvidaÒ curcumin had significantly improved performance on sustained attention and working memory tasks, compared to the placebo group, one hour after administration. After chronic treatment, subjects again had a significantly improved working memory and mood (as measured by fatigue, calmness, and a sense of psychological stress).
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel groups trial, 80 subjects aged 50 to 80 years were randomized to either 400 mg LongvidaÒ (containing 80 mg SLCP curcumin) or placebo for 12 weeks. The group given curcumin had significantly better working memory and lower fatigue scores after four and 12 weeks of treatment compared to the placebo group. Additionally, at the four week mark (but not at 12 weeks), the curcumin group reported significant decreases in mood disturbances (including anxiety, tension, confusion and anger) compared to placebo.

Decreases LDL Cholesterol and the Risk for Atherosclerosis and Cardiovascular Disease
In a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study, 60 healthy elderly subjects aged 60-85 years were given 400 mg of LongvidaÒ curcumin daily for four weeks. In addition to improved cognitive function, researchers also noted a significant reduction in total and LDL cholesterol.
A small placebo-controlled study examined the effect of 80mg per day of Longvida curcumin in 36 healthy adults aged 40 to 60 years. After four weeks of treatment, several blood markers had changed significantly: lower triglyceride levels, increased antioxidant capacity, lower concentrations of beta-amyloid (associated with the brain plaques found in Alzheimer’s disease), and decreased markers of atherosclerosis.
Anti-amyloid and Anti-inflammatory Neuroprotective Effects
In a study with both in vitro and in vivo models of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the effects of untreated curcumin were compared with SLCP (Longvida) curcumin. In the animal model of AD, SLCP was able to permeate brain tissue more effectively than plain curcumin. Five days of SLCP treatment led to a greater decrease in the tangle-like neurons of the hippocampus. Researchers also measured other markers (GFAP-IR, Iba-1-IR, and others) associated with amyloid plaques and concluded that SLCP provided greater neuroprotection and anti-amyloid effects compared to untreated curcumin powder.

In an animal study of cognitive decline, Longvida curcumin was fed to mice with compromised cognitive and motor function (GFAP-IL6 mice) for six months. Feeding mice the Longvida curcumin led to significant decreases (26%) in Iba-1+ mircoglia in the hippocampus and in the cerebellum (31%). As well, microglia dendrite length decreased and pre- and post-synaptic protein levels increased after curcumin feeding. This suggests that Longvida curcumin can attenuate inflammation and decrease neurodegeneration in GFAP-IL6 mice.

Included in the tau pathology and amyloid-beta plaque formation pathology of AD is the deregulation of the activity of the enzyme cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5). Hyperactive p25/Cdk5 is associated with significant neuroinflammation. In this study, researchers used an animal model of this state (p25Tg mice). When treated with curcumin, p25-mediated glial activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine production was attenuated. By supressing this neuroinflammation there was a decrease in the progression of the tau and amyloid pathology induced by p25, thereby reducing cognitive impairment.
