Hydroxocobalamin is a unique form of vitamin B12 which is more readily converted into the active coenzyme forms of B12 – adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin, than conventional cyanocobalamin. Hydroxocobalamin bypasses a step of this conversion and is therefore more readily turned into an active and useful form. Both active forms serve different but important functions in the body meaning that individuals who may not know which form they are deficient in can still benefit by supplementing with the hydroxo form.   Â
