One of the most treasured and commonly used plants in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years, it is known as “Indian Ginseng.” Not to be confused with Panax, Korean or Asian Ginseng. Ashwagandha is a drought tolerant shrub grown in Asia and Africa. Ashwagandha is native to India, it requires hot temperatures and dry climate to grow which is why it cannot be sourced from North American countries. The biologically active components found in ashwagandha are withanolides, alkaloids and sitoindosides and are anti stress agents. The root of ashwagandha is well studied for stress and has been shown to be safe and well tolerated by trial participants.
